Clarins’ Spring 2012 Collection is called Colour Breeze and I’ve had the chance of trying out a few of their Gloss Prodige colours.

(L-R)  Gloss Prodige in Candy, Raspberry, Grenadine

The Gloss Prodige is not a very sticky gloss with a fair bit of shimmer, and does not leave lips feeling tacky after a while. It wore a rather surprising 3-4hrs with eating and drinking and is a fairly moisturising formula with a very strong fruit candy-like scent. Not an unpleasant and nasty scent that I can’t accept so I was fine with it, the scent disappears after some time anyway.

As I have been using brighter shadows, my pick for lipcolour of the month is the Candy shade, which is a very nice MLBB/YLBB by a billion times sort of shade ;) It is a cool pinkish berry with some iridescent shimmer that does not feel gritty. Love this and it’s currently a mainstay in my bag.

leaping into the future

I always try to keep ahead a little when it comes to fashion and beauty trending, just so I know what is coming and whether or not it is something truly inspirational or plain boring and something that would pass quickly. I don’t actually stick to trends, because that usually gets tacky as hell; go for the classics and add your own flair to it. It’s a great way to look chic and not straight out of the trend factory, overstyled like a 90′s Barbie.

There’s nothing new about white. I wore a lot of white back in the days when I milled around in science labs, and it certainly isn’t my favourite colour although the saving grace is that it contrasts beautifully with black (oh you should see the amount of that in my wardrobe). Colour-blocking with black and white, which aren’t really colours if you think hard enough about it, and voila, style alert! We’re looking also at the contrast with dark make up and wearing that with some white. Just try not to overdo it. Effortlessly looking in style requires a lot more effort than you think, huh?

Anyway, this makes me want to pull out a white dress I’ve not worn yet…

Can I just mention that not everyone can do that cocaine chic look that had just passed a few seasons ago and then continued to linger on a bit? You need cheekbones of a Greek goddess to not completely be overshadowed by the pallor. On the other hand, looking fresh and alert equals a good look for everyone, save Frankenstein. This is a good example to follow, and easy too, if you happen to be running short on time or are just plain lazy. You need: a red lipstick. Preferably your perfect shade (let’s get into how to pick one another day), dab some onto fingers and push onto moisturized cheeks for instant flush. Be warned that for some people, the ingredients in lipstick can cause breakouts, but hey, so do a lot of the pigments in many blushes, so be warned. Dab a spot of lipstick onto centre of lipbalm-kissed mouth and you’ll be looking a lot fresher than when you first got up.

How many steps was that? Now is the time to not run out the house without even a slap of make up, your excuses are up!

Well, it seems inevitable to make this announcement now….

I am no longer doing make up as a career, and I think it is a good time now to reveal that I have only been doing some shoots now and then.

For years I have been battling back problems and I finally got diagnosed (with a lot of bad stuff I shall not list lol) after a series of MRIs and X-rays, and it will no longer be healthy for me to do make up as a long term job. I hope to still be able to do some shoots for hobby, but I am currently in a physical state that puts me at disadvantage spending long hours in bad posture positions!

I’m still interested in make up, shopping, fashion… I’m thinking of turning this blog into a something like a beauty/fashion write up place, but nothing is concrete, even sitting at the computer for longer hours is a no-no. I hope to come back with a post real soon!

Love,

Steph

It has been a while since I had last participated in test shooting. Mostly involved in some private events, including one where I got to see David Tao in person hahahaha! I’m not a fan so I wasn’t screaming or anything; I had gone out of the venue innocently to thaw myself (it was FREEZING) and there he was, standing there waiting to be picked up after his performance. Thought that was funny!

Completed also a job for Blackberry, but it is corporate, so no photos to share! I got jokingly chided for using my iPhone in a Blackberry office- so I told them they could give me one :P I’m waaaaiting, BB! I want to see if you are as good as you claim to be :D Will continue to be involved in more private work so, well, I’ll keep you guys posted! See you!

Happy Holidays!

Okay, just gonna do a quick update with stuff that I’ve been doing at The Make Up Room!

1950′s

1970′s hippie… I would say inspired. Glitter bomb mess.

One of my favourite looks from class… 1980′s-inspired look (click to see it in a larger size)

Yesterday’s fashion make up where we got to pick whatever make up we like from a magazine and recreate it exactly on our model.

Special thanks to Elizabeth Goh, my photographer turned model LOL.

Make up and photography (using Elizabeth’s camera LOL) by me ;)

For the perfect base to beautiful lip product application, here are some quick tips, tried and tested by yours truly!

  • Drink that water everyone has told you to drink! The slightest lack of water could very well be the cause of your flaking lips, so drink up and make sure you’ve got your insides covered before we carry on!
  • Exfoliation: Brush your lips after brushing your teeth? Agh! A much painless, less irritating way would be to take a nice and warm shower and after you get out, gently rub your index finger along your lips to slough off the dead skin that has become soggy, and voila, smooth lips! Slather on the lipbalm after this step!
  • For a homemade exfoliating scrub, all you need is some extra virgin olive oil from the kitchen, and some raw sugar. Mix both so you get a paste, which you can apply to your lips, preferably after a shower, and scrub those flaky bits off!
  • To prepare for a big day, apply a thin layer of your eye serum on your exfoliated lips before going to bed (what is eye-safe is generally lip-safe, but this doesn’t mean you should eat it or apply it on broken skin) – and then put on a thick thick layer of balm. I’m suggesting something really emollient like Vaseline, or Elizabeth Arden’s 8-hour cream. What happens is that the high quality of humectants (components that attract water) in your eye serum will draw up the moisture from deeper layers of your skin into your lips, and the balm will seal in the moisture, leaving soft and plump lips in the morning!
  • Reapply lip balm as per needed! Some balms which contain menthol, although can give a nice refreshing sensation, can dry out your lips. My personal favourite lip balms are Burt’s Bees Replenishing Lip Balm (available at Sephora), The Face Shop Plus +1 Lip Care Cream Vitamin (available at The Face Shop stores) and Lavera Basis Lip Balm (not available in Singapore)

wild like children

Saturday, July 24th, 2010

Been doing a series of shoots for a new baby/children’s mag… Applying make up for kids is no easy feat, some of them don’t even want you to come near them with a brush within 5m radius, but I’ve been pretty lucky so far. No one has cried or vomited on me. I have worked with children many times before as a volunteer, I played with them and helped with their homework, but make up? Uh oh…

Me and the first little girl I’ve ever applied make up on, Maya.

Maya has GORGEOUS red hair. I wish I can pull off such a vivid red too but I’d first have to bleach my hair to hell and back which would probably quite effectively fry it. Black it is.
